Five must-watch TED talks for every law student
How do you become an 'expert' on something in five minutes? Refocus your priorities? Find inspiration? Wind down after a stressful day? A good answer to all of these questions- watch a TED talk. There's so many to choose from, anything from augmented reality, to the exoskeleton, to work-life balance. I have narrowed down my favourites, particularly useful for law students but a good watch for anyone!
1. Peter Ouko- From Death Row to Law Graduate:
Leading the way as one of my all time favourites is this inspiring story Peter tells of how he went from being wrongly accused of murder, to graduating in law, to creating the first law school behind bars in Kenya. This is bound to make you feel like the most privileged law student ever, and won't make that torts essay seem so bad after all. 'Whatever it takes, just keep on moving.'

2. Angela Lee Duckworth- Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance:
Angela's explanation of the 'growth mindset' focuses on children, but is applicable to any stage of learning. The main idea behind it is the concept that education is a marathon not a sprint- as anyone who's gone anywhere near law school will readily admit! Angela explains how, in her studies, it is not those with the highest IQ which succeed but rather those with the greatest perseverance, or grit.

3. Alexandra Adams: Faces of the NHS: 1.5 Million Stars:
While this has a focus of medicine rather than law, it is inspirational, feel-good and genuinely interesting; bound to get you through a few tough days.

4. Vivek Maru- How to Put the Power of Law in People's Hands:
This is a slightly longer one but take 20 minutes to listen to this one, it's worth it. Vivek portrays a thought-provoking breakdown of modern international legal systems, and how this should change. His ideas for a legal empowerment movement, working with the law not against it, are truly inspiring.

5.Wendy Suzuki- The Brain-Changing Benefits of Exercise:
A great one for students with far too much to do, when exercise slips to the bottom of the list. Wendy explains how powerful exercise is in keeping your brain on top form through her scientific research.
